Our Developments
Building Communities. Creating Opportunities.
We create vibrant, sustainable communities through innovative housing solutions that spark economic growth and help residents to thrive. But we don’t stop at development—we stay engaged, ensuring our properties remain strong, connected parts of the community.
From after-school programs to financial planning workshops, we provide tools that uplift individuals and families. Through strategic partnerships, we bring tuition-free preschool, scholarships, and university-led education programs to those who need them most—opening doors and shaping brighter futures.
Some of Our Communities in Bloom
Sankofa Landing
Sankofa Landing is a model of how affordable housing can be paired with intentional community-building that honors the past while building a stronger future.
Bragtown, founded by emancipated slaves on land once part of the Staggville plantation, is recognized by Durham as a community with deep historical roots. Residents honor their ancestors’ hardships and celebrate their heritage, drawing inspiration from African traditions like the Sankofa bird, which symbolizes the importance of understanding and embracing one’s history to build a better future.
Located on a site that has served Durham’s veterans since the 1970s, Sankofa Landing will preserve this legacy by housing the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post. The VFW will occupy the clubhouse’s second story and allow members access to community amenities.
“By naming the apartment complex ‘Sankofa Landing,’ we honor (this) legacy and acknowledge the journey of our ancestors…We believe that this name will not only preserve the historical significance of the land but also inspire the community to embrace their authentic selves and continue to grow and thrive.”
– Vannessa Mason Evans, Bragtown Community Association Chairperson
Emerald Place
Emerald Place is the first housing community developed by LDG in Ohio, marking a key expansion into a new market for the company. It will bring 216 new apartment homes to Lancaster, a small town that has gone years without new housing opportunities. Emerald Place is designed to serve working families needing high-quality, affordable homes and will play a vital role in strengthening and balancing the local housing market.
Developed in partnership with the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA), the Lancaster Port Authority and the City of Lancaster, Emerald Place represents a long-term investment that will help create stability and opportunity for families who will call Emerald Place home. This development is another example of LDG’s commitment to meeting housing needs wherever they exist, including rural regions, and to creating places where families have the support needed to reach their full potential.
The Janson
As LDG Development’s largest market, Texas presents a tremendous opportunity while showcasing a pressing need for quality, affordable housing. The Janson, a 328-unit community in Southeast Austin, helps to fulfill that need while honoring LDG’s longtime partners, Dick and Phyllis Janson.
For years, Dick chauffeured owners Chris Dischinger and Mark Lechner, along with Chief Development Officer Justin Hartz, across Texas, looking at vacant land that would ultimately become the home for some of LDG’s most successful developments. Over the course of many years and thousands of miles, Dick Janson and Phyllis became more than partners; they became a part of the LDG family.
Though he passed away in January 2024, his influence on high-quality affordable housing endures. The Janson stands as a tribute to the vision of our partners and a testament to the impact of those advancing access to quality, affordable housing across the state of Texas and the nation.
Mae Street Village
LDG is proud to partner with the Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) to redevelop Dosker Manor, an aging public housing complex in the heart of downtown Louisville. This project will replace three outdated high-rise buildings and a former grocery store with Mae Street Village, an intergenerational, mixed-income community.
Named in honor of civil rights leader and housing advocate Mae Street Kidd, the development will offer high-quality affordable housing, on-site services, and amenities. LMHA will retain ownership of the land and remain a key partner throughout all phases of the redevelopment. This initiative reflects LDG’s commitment to partnerships that increase quality affordable housing options for hardworking families.
“(This partnership will) reshape affordable housing in Louisville…we are not only preserving and enhancing housing opportunities for low-income residents but also integrating modern design, accessibility, and services to support long-term success for individuals and families…”
– Elizabeth Strojan, LMHA Executive Director in The Courier-Journal
Sheehan Landing
In partnership with St. John Center, LDG developed Sheehan Landing, Kentucky’s first single-site supportive housing community. This landmark development offers 80 fully furnished, one-bedroom apartments for individuals experiencing houselessness and disabling conditions.
Named in honor of Sister Mary Kathleen Sheehan, founding director of St. John Center, the community is grounded in a Housing First approach emphasizing safe, stable housing as a foundation for healing. Each unit is fully accessible, thoughtfully designed for residents with limited mobility, and features enhanced safety measures throughout.
“You don’t know where you’re going to spend the night, who is going to be around you, who is going to hurt you or what you’re going to have the next day. Being at a facility like this, you have people who want to help you out. (It) makes me hopeful again.”
– William Sieveking, Resident of Sheehan Landing, WDRB
Sheehan Landing provides 24-hour staffing and security, on-site case management, and wraparound services such as medical and behavioral health care, financial assistance, and legal resources. Communal areas foster connection, education, and peer support.
At a time when affordable, supportive housing is scarce, Sheehan Landing fills a critical gap and reflects LDG’s commitment to creating housing that empowers individuals to rebuild their lives and find belonging.
“The concept of the design was to think of the people who are the hardest to get off the street. Identify what their behavioral health needs are, what their physical health needs are, figure out the barrier to keeping them in housing and then create housing for them.”
– Ra’Shann Martin, Executive Director of St. John Center in The Courier Journal
